Having picked up your letter yesterday from my post office box, I am writing you directly about your request.
Although I am appreciative of your courteousness in asking permission to use in your book some quotes from the letters I had sent you, I do not wish to grant you that permission.
If you would like an explanation of my reasons, I would have to provide that to you at a later date. I am sending this to you promptly so as to not cause any reason for misunderstanding my position.
